shownotes

  • Kevin Marks has been involved with Microformats and Google’s OpenSocial
  • We launched our handcrafted website (just one page for now)
  • We are thinking of moving to weekly podcasts, tell us what you think
  • Kevin is a Developer Advocate at Google, focusing on OpenSocial and Social Graphs
  • Kevin helped found Microformats
  • The Social Graph API is built on top of XFN
  • Brad Fitzpatrick has been working on XFN and Social Graph crawling
  • Open Social is an API to access people and friending information
  • OAuth is not the same as OpenSocial, OpenSocial even uses part of OAuth
  • Large XFN supports: Twitter, Flickr, Pownce, and LiveJournal
  • Microformats because infinitely more usable once the browsers specifically use them
  • If you want to start a microformat, check out their process
  • Starting a microformat means you need to gather alot of examples of markup and then find the 80% commonality
  • HRecipe has been started already, just never finished
  • Parts of the Social Graph API are open source
  • Open Social implementers: Orkut, "MySpace"http://myspace.com, and Hi5
  • Shindig is an open source Open Social container
  • Using the Open Social API is a way to avoid reinventing the wheel and forcing users to “re-friend” for every social network site
  • Kevin isn’t sure how big the Open Social team is, because it is a community project (they had over 100 people at a container meeting)

This show is unlistenable... as in, you two are such lame interviewers, once cannot bear to listen. What a shame to have a great idea and great guests become worthless because your voices, comments, self-centered questions, and overall poor interview technique take the adjective "amateurish" to a new low. Please guys... go get some voice talent to actually conduct the interviews. Or maybe some voice lessons? No matter what... please stop talking for 10 minutes at the beginning of the show about nothing... get right to the interview.

For a guy with such strong opinions and feedback, why are you afraid to give your real name, email address, or even your website? If you want to be constructive and give *real* feedback, feel free to do so with your name attached. I think a few thousand listeners who tune to the show tend to disagree with your opinion about our content and quality.

I couldn't disagree more with "Unlistenable" - I enjoy the 'laid back' style, the pace is such that I can listen while driving and not have to try to backtrack, while at the same time, not feeling bored. Keep kicking ass Josh + Adam ;)

Thanks for chiming in Ryan. I'm a strong believer in *constructive criticism*. "Mr. Unlistenable", feel free to shoot an email to us at web20show@gmail.com and we'd be happy to review your feedback and make adjustments if needed.

I like what you guys are doing. You have excellent interviewees, some real top-notch people. To constructively criticize you, I'm going to touch on "Mr. Unlistenable" for a bit. The show is definitely not unlistenable, but for viewers like me, we want to hear more, if not only, of the people being interviewed. I understand some of us just don't have the radio/talk-show personalities to carry on a web show. And some do. I think you guys have the potential, but there definitely are some unnecessary fluff intros that I find myself fast-forwarding past just to hear the interview. Also, I think you guys should be a little more organized about your schedule. I have absolutely no idea when you release a new show. I just check in once or twice a month to see if a new show is up. Web show producers like Revision 3 have a strict schedule and the shows are released at a certain time. I then wait at my browser til the clock ticks and I hit refresh to watch it (or open up iTunes and download the podcast). For this particular podcast, it's not the same. It's all check and guess. I really, more than anything, would like a strict schedule or when new shows are being produced and uploaded on the site! That would be awesome! That's really all I have for now, sorry guys I'm running out of time, gonna be late for class! ^_^ Again, I tried to be as constructive as possible, sorry if I offend anyone.

I have enjoyed your podcasts very much. Sure, the style may seem amateur and I think this is intentional. There's too much bland, boring stuff out there. Your show is just about right the way it is. The only thing I'd change is---more podcasts. I thought you had said you were going to increase to one podcast a week. Thanks for all you've done already.
