Saul Colt, Head of Magic from Freshbooks joins us to discuss the absolute greatest online invoicing tool.

Freshbooks is a [Software as a Service (SaaS)](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_as_a_Service “Software as a service – Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia”) that allows you to track time, create and send invoices, collect and track payments over the web. Freshbooks is designed for service-oriented professionals such as creative professionals, web developers, web designers, internet marketers, etc.

All Freshbooks accounts offer a “30 days. If you don’t like it. You get your money back. Guarantee.”, so either way you’ve got nothing to lose.

Just under five years ago [Freshbooks](http://www.freshbooks.com/ “FreshBooks – The Fastest Way to Track Time and Invoice Your Clients”) was started by [CEO and Co-Founder Mike McDerment](http://www.freshbooks.com/our-team.php#mike “FreshBooks – Our Team”) who at the time ran an internet marketing consultancy and wasn’t happy with any of the available online invoicing solutions. So Mike decided to build his own. The first version doesn’t look anything like the version in place today. Through a years worth of building the Freshbooks web application, Mike realized that Freshbooks was something that the world could use and from then has grown to what it is today.

  • [Roadburn 2008](http://roadburn.freshbooks.com/ “FreshBooks RoadBurn”) is a micro-site that chronicles the Freshbooks team as they travel in an RV from [Future of Web Apps (FOWA)](http://www.futureofwebapps.com/ “Future of Web Apps”) in Miami, FL to [SXSW Interactive](http://2008.sxsw.com/interactive/ “south by southwest festivals + conferences”) in Austin, TX.
  • The [Freshbooks API](http://developers.freshbooks.com/ “FreshBooks API Blog – Unleash your data. Build on the platform.”) allows Freshbooks to operate much like an online invoicing platform and has allowed various services to integrate with Freshbooks in some very interesting ways.
  • Check out the [Freshbooks Blog](http://www.freshbooks.com/blog/ “Fresh Thinking – A blog about our thoughts on entrepreneurship, teamwork, our services, the Web and anything we find interesting.”) for updates to the Freshbooks service and anything else they find interesting.

I think it was a bit to much blatant promotion of freshbooks. It was too much marketing and not enough meat. Otherwise I am a big fan of your podcasts. Please keep up the good work.

Alastair, Thanks for listening. Unforunately in this episode, we only had a marketing person on board for the episode. We tried to get the CEO on as well, but he was busy getting ready for a big launch. Be sure to watch for our next episode (42) with Kevin Rose and Gary Vaynerchuk!

Hey guys - thanks for having Saul on the show and sorry i missed it. If you ever want to do another one and focus on some other aspects of building web apps and teams and online businesses etc (errr maybe that's what Alastair meant by meat?!), I'd welcome the opportunity...no matter how far down the road. Cheers, - mike
